Frequently Asked Questions

Dear Potential Research Participants,

There are 2 recruitment methods for this research study: 1) Student Announcement System (for general TP population) and 2) Sign-up sheet at HSS Level 6 (for students in Diploma in Psychology Studies taking APIP1/APIP2 or students from the CDS Introduction to Psychology).

Students who sign up via the Sign-up sheet at HSS Level 6 will be receiving 3 participation receipts for their respective modules (i.e. CDS Introduction to Psychology/APIP1/APIP2) while students who sign up via the email stated in the Student Announcement System will be receiving SGD$10 remuneration upon completion of the research study.

Qn: How long will the research study last?
Ans: The research study will take approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.

Qn: How many participants will be recruited?
Ans: The research team will be recruiting a total of 180 participants, with an equal distribution of participants from the 6 different schools in TP and the both gender. Also, the recruitment of participants will be based on first-come, first-served basis.

Qn: How do I know if I am been successfully be recruited after signing up?
Ans: Students who have indicated their interest in participating in the research study will be contacted by the research team 2 days before study date either through email or phone.

Qn: Can my friend participates if he/she is not from TP?
Ans: No, we are only recruiting participants who are studying in TP.

Qn: If I'll be 18 this year but I'm not officially 18 yet, can I still participate in this study?
Ans: No, we are only recruiting participants who are at least 18years of age as of on the research study dates of 19th & 20th Jan 2010.

Qn: Will Seal Points be rewarded if I participate in this research study?
Ans: No, participants will only receive a remuneration of SGD$10 upon completing all the questionnaires in the study.

Qn: When will I receive the remuneration?
Ans: Participants will receive their remuneration of SGD$10 immediately after the research session.

Qn: How does the data that I have provided during the research study affects me?
Ans: Any response you choose to give during the course of the study will be anonymous and will not affect your participation grade or the amount of remuneration you receive in any way. There is no right or wrong answers thus we hope that you can pen down your responses truthfully.

Qn: What is cyber behavior?
Ans: Cyber behavior refers to any activites performed via a personal computer or laptop; it includes internet surfing, checking email, downloading content, performing online monetary transactions, using social networking platforms such as facebook, using computer security programs like antivirus and firewall, watching videos online, playing games, blogging, using external devices, using external devices like thumb drives and other activities that participants may engage in.

Recruitment of Research Participants



Dear TP Students,

We are a group of Year 3 students from Diploma in Psychology Studies. We are currently conducting a research study on Cyber Behaviour of Youths in Singapore. We are recruiting participants to undergo a survey-based study in which participants would receive a remuneration of SGD$10 for their efforts upon completing the course of study.

In order to be eligible to participate in this study, you have to be between 18-25 years old, have been engaging in cyber activities (i.e., using the internet or a computer) for a minimum of 2 hours daily and last but not least have not participated in a similar study titled "Factors Influencing Risky Cyber Behaviours" last semester.

There will be 2 sessions conducted for this study. You can choose to participate in either one of the sessions. The details of the sessions are as follow:
1) 19th Jan 2010 (Wed) - 6pm to 8pm, OR
2) 20th Jan 2010 (Thurs) - 6pm to 8pm

Participants can be assured of their privacy and confidentiality as their responses on the survey will not be tracked to their identity.
